Failure Analysis of Gray Iron Castings

metallon consultants collaborated with a foundry for the failure analysis of coke oven frames, 6 meters high. There were several castings cast in different materials.

Metallographic observation of samples taken from the casting were carried out. The behaviour of the castings in hot condition was addressed. Recommendations have been made on material specification and on maintenance during use for a longer life.
